NEWS Data Information Center (NDIC)
NDIC
The NEWS Data Information Center (NDIC) is a facility that allows NEWS and other collaborating investigators to:- upload and access data sets relevant to NEWS science projects and activities to/from the NDIC data archive system,
- log on to the NDIC computing facility to process and analyze data sets in the NDIC data archive.
NDIC Data Archive
The data archive function provides storage for NEWS data sets, and metadata describing those data sets. It also provides software tools for reading and displaying the data. Data sets can be uploaded by NEWS authorized investigators via the following process:
Using the Account Request Form, obtain an account and
then use the Secure Shell (ssh) protocol
to secure copy (scp) the data from a terminal window of a networked computer.
Users possessing a valid NEWS collaborator account may use
Secure Shell (ssh) from a terminal window of a networked computer
to download the data. Or, if the data has been made available for public
access, one may use the CREW File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server
to browse and download data either via a web browser or from the command line of
a networked computer.
NDIC Processing Facility
NDIC offers a facility for authorized users to directly access and manipulate NDIC data sets on the NDIC computing facility. To do this one must be an authorized member of the NEWS research team, and complete a NEWS Team Account Request Form (see below) to obtain a userid and password. The specific capabilities to be provided by the NDIC Processing Facility are still under development and will be described here as they become available.Data Table
The NEWS Data Table is viewable by anyone with interest in NEWS Data. (The NEWS Data Table may be edited by members of the NEWS team. All members of the NEWS team have been granted access to edit this page. For problems, please contact M. Larko.)CREW GrADS/DoDs Server (GDS)
The CREW GDS has available on-line water cycle-related data set accessible via an Internet-connected computer. The above page provides links to the data as well as links on using a GrADS-DoDs Server (GDS).CREW FTP Server
All publically-available data on CREW is also available via the CREW File-Transfer-Protocol (FTP) server. This includes data sets (such as Naval Research Lab Rainrate product delivered in jpeg-image format).NEWS Team Account Request Form
NEWS Team members may request an account
